De första försöken att rekonstruera dräkten gjordes i början av 1900-talet. Karl Trotzig var även
engagerad i den här dräkten liksom i många andra dräkter i SödraDalarna. Med hjälp av
bouppteckningar, muntliga uppgifter och de få bevarade plaggen komponerades en
mansdräkt och en kvinnodräkt. Mansdräkten rekonstruerades först
och några år senare var kvinnodräkten klar.
Kvinnodräkten.
Kjolen är randig i mörka färger. Den är i halvylle och vävd i tekniken tuskaft.
Det finns två alternativ för livstycke. Det första är ett i sämskskinn som har skört bak.
Livet har också laskningar. Snörning fram med ett mörkrött band. Det andra livstycket är i
samma material som i kjolen. Mönstret är lika som för skinnlivet men det har inga laskningar.
Överdelen är i vitt linne vävt i tuskaft. Kragen och ärmlinningarna kantas med en uddspets.
Förklädet är randigt och i bomull. Man kan välja att bära bomullsschal eller sidenschal.
Bindmössan är av rött siden och har ett broderi. Tyllstycke med ett trätt broderi. Kjolsäcken
är i svart kläde medan baksidan av sämskskinn. Kjolsäcken är även kantad med sämskskinn.
Den hakas fast i kjollinningen.

Mansdräkten.
Till By mansdräkt hör knäbyxor i sämskskinn. Västen är mörkrandig och enkelknäppt. Blå strumpor i ylle.
Jackan är mörkblå och enkelknäppt. Till den används en sydd mössa med tofs.
Långrock med hög hatt hör också till dräkten.

Some
historic information on the costume from the parish By.
In the beginning of the 20th century the costume for By was reconstructed. They
started with the men´s
costume in this case and both the men´s and ladies´ costumes were completed around the year of 1915.
The alderman Karl Trotzig was, as in so many cases of construction and reconstruction of costumes
in this area of southern Dalarna, also involved in this costume.
The ladies costume
The
skirt has stripes in dark colours. The material is 50% wool and 50% cotton and
it is hand-woven.
For the vest you have two options. One is made of chamois and has a flap in the back. It is laced up in the
front with a dark red ribbon. The vest has also very special embroideries. The second vest is of the
same material as the skirt. The blouse is of white linen. On the edge on the collar and down on the sleeves
there is a lace. The apron is of cotton and has stripes. You can choose to wear a scarf of cotton or a silk one.
The headgear is of red silk with embroideries. Together with the headgear you always wear a lace. The lace has
embroideries. The pochette is of black wool. It has chamois on the backside and the
trimming around the pochette is also chamois. You wear it hooked on to the skirt to the right.
The men´s
costume.
The knee-breeches are of chamois. The vest is in dark colours and has stripes.
It is single-breasted. Blue socks
go with the costume. There is also a jacket with the dress. It is dark blue and single-breasted.Together with
the jacket you wear a sewed cap with a tassel. If you choose to wear the
long-coat you always wear a black top hat.
